When everything that could possibly go wrong goes wrong, you're left with sheer bravado and undying will to deliver on promise -that's the spirit of a Lagos hustler.
I trust my folks at TBWA to push the extreme every time (we are getting better that way), this time we got a call from them late Friday night to deliver on multimedia creatives for LED display for the Spirit of Lagos Award night slated for the next Tuesday, within that space of time we came up with a script, recorded voice over, changed the script, re recorded, developed creatives, designed motion graphics, changed the script and you know the cycle goes on and on.
Unfortunately for us it was during the fuel scarcity period, the complex management had to shut down operations for the period, so I practically moved operations from our Lekki Phase 1 office to my home in Ajah.
As you know the show must go on.
We set up shop at home with just my iMac, DELL laptop, LaCie hard drive and over priced fuel from black market. Everything seems to be going on just fine I had conveniently converted my living space into a makeshift studio, worked round the weekend non-stop only for the agency to review on Monday morning. To my shock they came up with a truck load of corrections (which was expected) just then I realized they had developed and approved a design template for the show. Seriously? As if that wasn't enough we needed to collaborate better, sending files won't cut it so I was asked to come over to the mainland.
Cutting the long story short after a long review session at the agency we checked into a guest house in GRA Ikeja at about 11.30pm, about 2 minutes drive from the agency. 2 cups of neat coffee did the trick, worked all through the night moved back to the agency with just hours to start of show at Eko Hotels and Towers, Victoria Island. Everybody was on my neck, from the Creative Director to the Client Service Manager there was practically no breathing space. Alas 1 hour into the show just before the Award presentation I delivered, they sent files via Dropbox and that's how we saved the day.
Nobody cares about how you get stuff done, just get it done. You can take off to the moon after the madness, Ko kan aiye!
